History of this project

In VERY short,

  1. AEGEE had Lotus from 2000/2001 onwards. It is not an online application
  2. AEGEE's IT tries to develop OMS (hence the "Online")
  3. OMS is only ready at 30% because of HR problems (retention of IT is always difficult, as when they start working they like making big money..)
  4. AEGEE wanted stuff to happen, paid for a new intranet in 2007/2008
  5. This Intranet is a complete disaster.
(Issue 1: There are around 58 THOUSAND (58.000) users on our current intranet, mostly because when people forget their login they just re-register as the "forgotten password" mechanism does not work as expected)
(Issue 2: All data is transferres unencrypted.)
(Issue 3: It is based on a beta version of CakePHP.)
  6. AEGEE's IT goes back to the effort previously started, collects missing features for a new OMS in 2012.
  7. At some point Fabrizio from ITC takes the initiative and starts implementing it from scratch. During this time the name MyAEGEE was introduced for the "new OMS". Internally we decided to come back to the term OMS as this name is more talky.
  8. From 2016 on a bigger team of AEGEEans is implementing the OMS. Online collaborative development and personal workshop meetings/"Hackathons" in Brussels are part of the development process.
